Help and answers for logging income and setting money aside for taxes.
When you first open Side Work Tax, a quick setup asks how you'd like to estimate: Simple (set aside a flat percentage of every payment) or Smart (an estimate based on your filing status, state, and any day-job income). You can change this anytime in Settings.
From the home screen, tap the + button to log income in seconds. The “Jar” at the top always shows how much to set aside year-to-date.
In Simple mode it's a flat percentage of your net income (you choose 25%, 30%, or 35%). In Smart mode it estimates self-employment tax (Social Security + Medicare), the federal income tax attributable to your self-employment income, and your state's tax, then sums them. Everything is an estimate.
It's designed to get you close so you set aside enough—not to file your taxes. Real returns depend on deductions, credits, and details the app doesn't track. Always confirm with a qualified tax professional before relying on a number.
The U.S. pays estimated taxes four times a year. The Quarterly tab shows each period's income, a suggested set-aside, and the due date. With Pro you can mark each quarter as paid to track what you've sent in.
Deductible business expenses (Pro) reduce your net income, which lowers how much you need to set aside. Log them the same fast way you log income and pick a category.
The free version supports up to two income sources. Pro unlocks unlimited sources, plus expenses, export, reminders, and advanced fields.
Yes (Pro). When you enable reminders, the app schedules local notifications a week before and on each estimated-tax due date. Notifications are entirely on-device.
Pro includes CSV and PDF export of your year and quarterly summary, shared via the standard iOS share sheet.
Completely. All your data stays on your device—there's no account, no login, no servers, no ads, and no analytics. See our Privacy Policy.
Go to Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Your Pro access is tied to your Apple Account.
Go to Settings → Delete all data to permanently remove all income, expenses, and sources, or simply delete the app.
Yes. Everything works offline except in-app purchases, which need an internet connection.
Side Work Tax provides estimates to help you set money aside. It is not tax advice and not a tax filing service.
